New platform tracks sector progress improving the legal services market for consumers

A collaborative website tracking the efforts being made to ensure the legal services market works better for consumers has been launched – Reshapinglegalservices.org.uk.

The collaborative website was produced with input from stakeholders across the sector, including Kingsley Napley, LawtechUK, and the Legal Services Consumer Panel. It will be managed and hosted by the Legal Services Board. It is a central source for research and data dashboards, blogs, and insights that illustrate the progress made by the wide range of people and organisations with a role to play in delivering against the 10-year sector-wide strategy, Reshaping Legal Services

The strategy aims to reshape legal services to better meet society’s needs, through fairer outcomes, stronger confidence and better services. There are dashboards aligned to the nine challenges set out in the strategy, covering several metrics, including the economic health of the sector, levels of unmet legal needs and diversity across the legal professions.

The platform also includes blogs from legal services regulators, consumer organisations, lawyers, and others including:

  • LawtechUK manager Felix Brown, on the important role of data in improving legal services and improving access to justice.
  • Shannett Thompon, a partner at Kingsley Napley, shares reflections as a black woman in the sector and puts forward ideas for improving diversity and inclusion.
  • Bar Standards Board colleagues Shadae Cazeau, Head of Equality and Access to Justice, and Oliver Jacking, Research and Evaluation Manager, on using data to understand income inequality at the Bar and strengthening the evidence base for work to address retention and progress issues.
  • Dalibor Warburton, AdviceUK’s National Network Lead, on a new approach to understanding people’s experiences of legal services and using the insights to redesign services and improve lives.

The site will be developed to share projects and ideas from across the sector and help identify positive practices and areas that need more attention.

Matthew Hill, Chief Executive of the Legal Services Board, said:

‘We have set an ambitious ten-year vision to ensure the legal services market works better for consumers and society, and this platform will help us track progress. Reshaping legal services requires a collaborative effort from everyone across the sector and we want to help showcase and share the positive impact being made and identify where more work is needed. We invite everyone across the sector to share their work so that others can learn from it and build on it. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far.’
