LSB statement on the House of Lords Constitution Committee’s report on the rule of law

The Legal Services Board (LSB) welcomes the publication of the House of Lords Constitution Committee’s report on the rule of law in the UK

We are pleased that the Committee has drawn on the evidence we submitted, including material from our Professional Ethics and Rule of Law (PERL) programme. The Committee’s highlighting of this evidence reflects the importance of ensuring that regulation can support legal professionals to uphold the rule of law throughout their careers.

We also note that one of the Committee’s recommendations aligns with a key proposal from our ethics consultation, relating to the ethical training of lawyers. Responses to our consultation provided valuable feedback, which we are using to finalise our policy statement. We recently published a blog that summarises the feedback and outlines our next steps. Read it here

The LSB will consider the Committee’s recommendations carefully. We look forward to continuing to work with regulators, parliamentarians and wider stakeholders to support a strong and independent legal services sector that upholds the rule of law and delivers better outcomes for the public.
